Hey Mum,

You’ve been worrying about your baby’s weight, haven’t you?

You look at other babies and you start wondering…

“Why is my own not filling out like this?”

“Am I not feeding enough?”

“I’ve tried everything… so why is nothing working?”

First, breathe.

If you don’t like the way your baby looks, it’s okay to want improvement. It’s okay to want healthy weight gain. What matters is that you’re doing it for the right reasons — health, strength, proper development. Not pressure. Not comparison. Not birthday photos next week.

Now let me tell you something gently.

When you say, “I’ve done everything under the sun,” what you really mean is: you’ve done everything you know.

And if you knew better, you would absolutely do better.

That’s why I’m here.

Let me tell you the one thing most mothers are not doing enough of when trying to fix weight gain issues:

You are not feeding frequently enough.

Yes. That’s it.

The most effective method I personally used for my baby — and have used with many mothers — is something called cluster feeding.

Now calm down. Cluster feeding does not mean stuffing your baby’s tiny stomach with heavy meals.

And please… stop doing that.

Every week a mum tells me,

“Mumtritionist, my baby’s birthday is next week. I need him chubby urgently.”

Next week? This same next week?

And then you add, “I’ll pay anything.”

That part is always sweet to hear 😂

But I will still say no.

Natural, wholesome foods do not perform magic tricks in seven days. And when I refuse, many mothers go home and start forcing large quantities of food into their baby’s stomach at every sitting.

What happens next?

The baby vomits.

Again and again.

Then appetite reduces.

Then weight drops even more.

And suddenly it’s “village people.”

No, mama.

It’s overfeeding.

A baby’s stomach is small. When you overload it, the body rejects it.

So what should you do instead?

Feed smaller portions. More often.

That’s cluster feeding.

Instead of three heavy meals, think:

Small meal.

Short break.

Small meal.

Short break.

You are increasing frequency, not quantity.

For example:

Breakfast – 7am

Snack – 10am

Lunch – 1pm

Snack – 4pm

Dinner – 7pm

That’s five feeding moments already.

Now let’s talk about something many of you overlook: prolonged fasting.

If your baby eats dinner at 7pm and doesn’t eat again until 7am, that’s 12 hours.

During long fasting periods, the body starts using stored energy. First glycogen. Then fat stores.

If your baby is already struggling to gain weight, why are we allowing long fasting windows?

For babies who truly need structured weight gain support, sometimes introducing a late-night or early-morning feed helps reduce that prolonged fasting period.

Not forcefully. Not aggressively. Gently. Intentionally.

When my baby was 8 months and I was intentionally supporting her weight gain, I followed a structured routine consistently. Same feeding windows. Same pattern. Every day.

And that consistency is what produced visible results within weeks.

Not stuffing.

Not panic feeding.

Not emotional feeding.

Routine.

Mama, weight gain is not about one big meal.

It’s about rhythm.

It’s about consistency.

It’s about understanding metabolism.

It’s about respecting your baby’s stomach capacity.

And most importantly, it’s about patience.

If you truly want faster, healthy weight gain:

Create a feeding schedule.

Write it down.

Stick to it.

Monitor.

Adjust wisely.

Healthy weight gain is not accidental.

It is strategic.

And you don’t have to figure it out alone.

If this spoke directly to you, then it was meant for you.
